Sound all good to me.
I didn't known how you plan to advance on those point but I may be  
able to help .
Can you release it early even just some blank modules and empty  
functions. It would help to code aside without struggling on what  
would change.
Make a branch and commit regularly. I may help as next week would be  
relatively free for me.
For this you could try git, I have setup one at gitorious :
http://gitorious.org/projects/sputnik/repos/mainline

Would you give it a try ? It would be simple and convenient for a  
crash test version.
