I don't know if I understood your question very well or if I just don't know the answer. I have
already downloaded Subversion once and compiled it in my "home", it was not so difficult as
far as I can remember.
Off course you will need to change the makefile too.
I am trying to compile Subversion again and will send another e-mail when I have finished.

P.S.: Was this the point or I missed it?

Assunto: sputnik with subversion
Just to give people some context, we are talking about Sergio's
subversion module for Lua which would make it possible to store
Sputnik pages in Subversion. If this were sufficiently easy to
install, this might potentially be a great alternative to the current
storage as files.
The catch is that luasvn uses a C file to create a Lua binding for
subversion, which means it needs to be compiled, and this compilation
process really needs to be easy for this to server as a realistic
alternative. As of this moment, I've been able to compile it, but get
an error while trying to require the module. I thought we would move
the discussion to this list, in case others want to partake in the
fun.
I check in luasvn.c and its makefile under trunk/luasvn:

Ok, I have nothing against using 1.4 per se (as long as the
documentation says so clearly, which it now does). However, instead
of thinking which version of svn Ubuntu comes with, maybe it is better
to start with the assumption that the system has no subversion and the
user has no root access. I wonder how hard it is to build subversion
from source without root. If this is not too hard, maybe this is the
way to go?
